I have been at some of the schools when the kids receive them and they absolutely love and appreciate them!! From elementary to high school kids it is something that they appreciate and light up! Thank you all for bringing this program into our schools and letting us be a part of your organization!

Another happy student and parent!  This is a young man with extreme anxiety based on his poor self-image and social isolation.  [He has] missed a significant amount of school due to suicidal ideation and hospitalization.  Only days after his return to our school he received his birthday bag.  The birthday bag was a well-timed affirmation that he is important!

From a parent: “nicest thing a school ever did”.  So continue the good work.

A grandmother called to report that her grandchild just got off the bus smiling ear to ear! She was so moved she wanted to make a donation, but we told her that was totally unnecessary!

We have one 1st grade elementary student that enrolled at our school approximately 6 weeks ago.  Due to housing deficits and other lack of other resources his mother was essentially forced to send his 3 siblings to live with extended family, out of state (this occurred months ago).  He only stayed with mom because he was assigned to our alternative school. Last week we became aware that the children were reunified and that although there was adequate housing, the family was lacking blankets, pillows, etc. to accommodate all of the three returning children.  Moreover, it was a traumatic event for all of the children.  We had accumulated 3 go bags.  The mother was overwhelmed with the go bags and commented on how the unexpected extras (stuffed animals, hygiene bags, etc.) were so appreciated.  Our student that really struggled at his last school but has stabilized with us beamed with pride as he helped carry the go bags to deliver to his mother.  This little boy has had more disappointments than many will experience in a lifetime so to see him feel like he was being a helper with something directly impacting his family was a wonderful thing to see.

“one of the kids today was jumping up and down when he saw his birthday bag”

“We recently enrolled a MS student that absolutely hated school.  The parents tried public, church based and home school and nothing was effective.  This morning I met with them to complete the 504 plan and they were gushing with compliments regarding how much their child now enjoys school.  The kicker is that they identified getting a birthday bag as his favorite thing about our school thus far.  “Changing hearts and minds” comes to mind.”

(A teacher) was talking about the impact of the Birthday bags and hygiene kits. One little boy actually requested a hygiene kit because he knew his mom couldn’t afford it.
